Wearing men’s clothing can seem like a pretty intimidating suggestion, but I’m here to prove to you that menswear is a super fun addition to any woman’s closet. With a few tricks and styling tips to balance the masculine edge of menswear pieces, you’ll be rocking untraditionally feminine outfits in no time.
In this look, I paired a gray plaid blazer over a mesh shirt and a Calvin Klein sports bra. Some distressed-edge jeans helped make the ‘fit a little more casual, and I thought the Air Force 1’s complemented the more sporty top. The boxy, oversized quality of a men’s blazer can actually be super flattering—balancing larger masculine pieces like this with a skintight silhouette, cropped tops, or statement jewelry results in a super wearable look! However, I totally encourage you to try a full formal menswear outfit without a single earring or tight top in sight… that’s a power move.
For this outfit, I decided to play with the structure of the classic menswear piece: the button-up. Tying the front of the shirt, rolling up sleeves, and adjusting an off-shoulder neckline are all great tricks to break up the more masculine structure of these pieces and fit your body in a more flattering way. A bold red lip, some big ol’ hoops, and black suede heels contributed to a powerful and very feminine look. Styling traditionally men’s pieces can be a super fun experience (that makes you look and feel like a bad-ass), so I definitely recommend stealing from the other gender’s closet and pushing those boundaries!
